I. MAKING MOST EFFECTIVE USE OF THE TRIAL DISK
_______________________________________________
This Guide contains suggestions for effectively using your
FASTBACK PLUS Trial disk. Basically, you might follow these
steps:
1. Keep your printed copy of this Guide handy.
2. Follow through the automated demonstration.
3. Install FASTBACK PLUS.
4. Start FASTBACK PLUS and go through the Tutorial in
this guide. It explains how to make backups and
restores and how to choose files and provides
examples for you to follow.
5. With FASTBACK PLUS running, browse through the
menus and try out the features and options for
yourself. (The Trial Disk version of FASTBACK
PLUS contains all the features and options of the
standard version; the only limitation is that you
can't backup more than two megabytes of data.)
These steps generally begin from the Demo Menu, which you
call up while in the FBDEMO directory by typing DEMO. Take a
moment to consider the powerful features and functions FASTBACK
PLUS offers you:
-Choice of backup types, including full backups, incremental
(only those files changed since the last backup), and
differential (only those files changed since the last full
backup).
-File selection which lets you include or exclude from your
backup or restore by directory, by file, by creation date or
modification date, and by archive status.
-Estimates of backups and restores, which let you know how
much space and time an operation will require.
-Statistical reports and progress reports about operations.
-History files, which keep you fully informed and which make
selective operations easy.

-Ability to restore to a different device or directory so
you can reorganize data or transfer data between machines.
-Restore from multiple backups in one operation.
-Get History, which lets you retrieve the history file from
a backup set if it is deleted from hard disk; FASTBACK PLUS
also can restore without history file.
-Context-sensitive HELP always available.
-Enhanced error-correction for greater data security
-Data compression to reduce the number of backup disks you
need by as much as one-half
-DOS-compatible diskette formatting
-Directory Tree diagram for file selection and preview of
backups and restores
-Smooth recovery from damaged diskettes
-Versatile built-in keystroke macro facility to create
command files
-"Smart" restores that save you time and keep your hard
disk in exactly the condition you want it
-Powerful but user-friendly features that keep you in
charge of every stage of planning, automating, and executing
backups and restores
Getting HELP
____________
On-line HELP is always only a key-stroke away. If you need
help with a particular command or menu choice while using
FASTBACK PLUS, just press the <F1> key to pop up a context-
sensitive HELP window. If you need a reminder of what the
Function Keys do, press <F1> a second time (that is, any time you
are looking at a help screen). If you want a quick summary of
your current program settings, press <F2>.

II. AUTOMATED DEMO
__________________
The Trial Disk has Automatic Demo that can be started from
the Demonstration Menu. The "A" option can be used to start
the Automatic Demo.
The Automatic Demo is actually a FASTBACK PLUS Macro that
covers most of the options available. You will be prompted with
a message window that will explain the Fastback Plus features.
You will also be given two options with every message window to
either "continue" or "abort." The space bar will allow you to
continue with the automatic demo. Pressing <ESC> will abort the
demo and give you control over FASTBACK PLUS. You can then press
the <ALT> and Q keys simultaneously to get back to the Trial Disk
Demonstration Menu.
III. INSTALLING FASTBACK PLUS (FBINSTAL)
_________________________________________
This section describes how to setup FASTBACK PLUS for your
computer. The RUNDEMO program automatically creates a directory
named FBDEMO on your C: drive and copies the files from your
trial diskette into it. If you are reading this guide you
probably have already got this far.
If you want to use a drive other than C: or to give a
different name to the directory, you may do so by exiting from
RUNDEMO, creating the directory yourself, and then copying the
