  142.                This Guide contains suggestions for effectively using your
  143.  
  144.                FASTBACK PLUS Trial disk.  Basically, you might follow these
  145.  
  146.                steps:
  147.  
  148.                     1.   Keep your printed copy of this Guide handy.
  149.  
  150.                     2.   Follow through  the automated demonstration.      
  151.                     
  152.                     3.   Install FASTBACK PLUS.
  153.  
  154.                     4.   Start FASTBACK PLUS and go through the Tutorial in
  155.                          this guide.  It explains how to make backups and
  156.                          restores and how to choose files and provides
  157.                          examples for you to follow.

  159.                     5.   With FASTBACK PLUS running, browse through the
  160.                          menus and try out the features and options for
  161.                          yourself.  (The Trial Disk version of FASTBACK
  162.                          PLUS contains all the features and options of the
  163.                          standard version; the only limitation is that you
  164.                          can't backup more than two megabytes of data.)

  166.                These steps generally begin from the Demo Menu, which you
  167.  
  168.           call up while in the FBDEMO directory by typing DEMO.  Take a 
  169.  
  170.           moment to consider the powerful features and functions FASTBACK 
  171.  
  172.           PLUS offers you:

  174.                -Choice of backup types, including full backups, incremental
  175.                (only those files changed since the last backup), and
  176.                differential (only those files changed since the last full
  177.                backup).

  179.                -File selection which lets you include or exclude from your
  180.                backup or restore by directory, by file, by creation date or
  181.                modification date, and by archive status.

  183.                -Estimates of backups and restores, which let you know how
  184.                much space and time an operation will require.

  241.                On-line HELP is always only a key-stroke away.  If you need
  242.  
  243.           help with a particular command or menu choice while using
  244.  
  245.           FASTBACK PLUS, just press the <F1> key to pop up a context-
  246.  
  247.           sensitive HELP window.  If you need a reminder of what the
  248.  
  249.           Function Keys do, press <F1> a second time (that is, any time you
  250.  
  251.           are looking at a help screen).  If you want a quick summary of
  252.  
  253.           your current program settings, press <F2>.

  271.                                   II. AUTOMATED DEMO
  272.                                   __________________

  274.                The Trial Disk has Automatic Demo that can be started from 
  275.  
  276.           the Demonstration Menu.  The "A" option can be used to start 
  277.  
  278.           the Automatic Demo.
  279.  
  280.                The Automatic Demo is actually a FASTBACK PLUS Macro that 
  281.  
  282.           covers most of the options available.   You will be prompted with
  283.  
  284.           a message window that will explain the Fastback Plus features.  
  285.  
  286.           You will also be given two options with every message window to 
  287.  
  288.           either "continue" or "abort."  The space bar will allow you to 
  289.  
  290.           continue with the automatic demo.   Pressing <ESC> will abort the
  291.  
  292.           demo and give you control over FASTBACK PLUS.  You can then press
  293.  
  294.           the <ALT> and Q keys simultaneously to get back to the Trial Disk
  295.  
  296.           Demonstration Menu.

  299.                       III.  INSTALLING FASTBACK PLUS (FBINSTAL)

  302.                This section describes how to setup FASTBACK PLUS for your 
  303.  
  304.           computer.  The RUNDEMO program  automatically creates a directory
  305.  
  306.           named FBDEMO on your C: drive and copies the files from your 
  307.  
  308.           trial diskette into it.  If you are reading this guide you 
  309.  
  310.           probably have already got this far.  
  311.  
  312.                If you want to use a drive other than C: or to give a 
  313.  
  314.           different name to the directory, you may do so by exiting from 
  315.  
  316.           RUNDEMO, creating the directory yourself, and then copying the
